Another Hot Topic:  Return to Hot Meals Option!

It’s now summer, and life is slowly returning to pre-pandemic normal. All adults and children over 12 are eligible to get a vaccination. Masks are no longer required in most places for those who have been vaccinated. In March of 2020, CPMOW changed from hot to frozen meals because our supplier,
St. Vincent’s kitchen, was only able to provide frozen meals. We were grateful we could continue to serve meals to our homebound clients. In July, CPMOW is giving our clients the option of returning to hot meals or continuing with frozen meals. The hot meals are made fresh daily and include a cold tray of fruit and roll, or sometimes a small salad. While the hot meals are fresh, many may prefer the flexibility frozen meals provide.

…to all Volunteers who pack and deliver meals each week. Some of our volunteers who go above and beyond: • Lynette Cooper – has delivered meals for years and continues to deliver meals twice a week for two different routes. • Erin Yoshioka – has arranged her work schedule to be able to pack food and deliver meals every week. • Kathy Mandaville delivers meals every week and took a client for a medical appointment and the store. • Rocki Davidson – delivers meals every week and brings baked cookies and other treats to her clients. She often takes them on errands. • Alyssa Jarnot – packs food and delivers meals two days every week. • Erin Brett – delivers meals every week and often buys groceries for her clients. She is concerned that soon she won’t be seeing them every week since she is about to have a baby.

… to our Wellness Calls Program volunteers who call clients each week to seek how they’re doing, and if they are getting enough food.

Special Client Mr. Layton

Harry Layton has received meals from CPMOW for several years. He is an accomplished artist and poet. After working in the aircraft industry then security work for the military, he opened a graphic design studio: Layton Studio. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Who’s Who in America in 2017. He considers his greatest achievement raising 11 children four girls and seven boys! Mr. Layton often shares his art and poetry with the volunteers who deliver his food. He has a very positive outlook of life and ends conversations with: “Take it easy and keep a positive attitude.”

Legacy Giving*

We know that every act of giving is personal and unique. As our client population ages, we face unique challenges within our senior community. That is why we would like to invite you to consider making a legacy gift by investing in the sustainability of our mission and the people served by CPMOW. Your legacy gift during your lifetime and after will make a difference in the lives of these homebound individuals and ensure that our critical work of providing nutritious meals and friendly visits continues. Should you have any questions, please call Pam Frieden, our Executive Director, at (310) 559-0666.

(We recommend that donors seek professional tax, legal and financial advice and guidance when preparing any legacy gift in a Bequest, Will, or Trust form so that they comply with all state and federal laws.)

* Legacy, or planned giving, is a donation made by an individual through a will or other formal designation.

Note from Executive Director Pam Frieden

I hope everyone enjoyed their 4th of July celebrations. Slowly but surely, it seems that we are getting back to normal it’s so lovely to see people’s smiles once again! Here at CPMOW, we are excited to offer the option to receive our hot meals once again. Our staff has been working diligently to make sure this transition works smoothly. Special thanks to Suzanne Moller for all her hard work ensuring the correct meals are ordered and delivered to our clients to accommodate this change that started on July 6. I also want to send out big thank yous to all of you who participated in our Spring Appeal this year. The final numbers are not in yet, but we are looking good. We continue to receive calls from people who cannot afford meals, so your support is very much appreciated. Thank you! Secondly, I want to thank some extraordinary donors who choose to give to CPMOW monthly. By choosing to become a monthly donor, you have helped ensure our program’s stability and effectiveness. Knowing we can count on your contribution each month allows us to budget for our vital program to help the homebound remain healthy and independent. Thank you so much for your monthly support! Have a wonderful summer, everyone, and don’t forget to keep hydrated!
